Acetate A synthetic fiber with the luxurious feel of silk, acetate has some water resistance properties and dries extremely quickly. Even though it is not as delicate as its natural counterparts, acetate should still be handled with care and responds best to dry cleaning. Acetate fibers are hypoallergenic, so it is a great option for the sensitive shopper!
Acrylic Acrylic is the textile manufacturers' cloning wool. This man-made version of wool has the same look as the original, but is much easier to care for, and can even be put in the washing machine! However, its warmth does not quite equal that of the original. Wear it all winter, but layer up!
Bamboo This fabric is best described as having that "lived-in feel" of your favorite cotton tee, right from the start. It's an eco-friendly fabric and absorbs 3 to 4 times as much moisture as cotton. If you love cotton or you have sensitive skin, this is a great option!
Cashmere A luxurious fabric that often traces back to Asia and the Middle East. Cashmere makes you feel like your're still wrapped up in your favorite blanket but its classy look screams sophistication. Essentially, Cashmere is the softest variation of wool. With any fine fabric, extra care is required - hand wash or dry cleaning only.
Cotton We don't believe there's too much to have to say here. The most breathable, comfy, versatile, and easy to care for fabric. Many's preferred fabric though don't forgot about cotton's tendency to shrink! Cold water washes should help with that.
Leather Another fabric that needs little explanation. Durable with a butter soft feel. Because genuine leather is made from animal hide, the best way to care for it is to treat it as you would your own skin. This means finding the right cleaner and conditioner.
Linen Linen has the raw, fibrous look of a handmade sheet of paper, with the same delicate texture and soft feel. Don’t let the fact that this fabric is easily wrinkled deter you from embracing it into your wardrobe—comfortable and light, linen is the perfect fabric for the summer season!
Lycra You're likely to always find lycra blended with another fabric. Lycra increases flexibility and allows for a better fit and greater comfort and freedom of movement. Further, lycra is durable and allows clothes to keep their form even after multiple washes.
Metallic Another man-made fabric thought how delicate it is would never lead you to figure that it's actually made of metal-like fibers. Not only soft and delicate, this fabric helps add a bit of class and shine to your collection.
Modal Modal and cotton are essentially cousins. Both share the same level of comfort and natural feel. However, modal and cotton do differ in a few key respects. Rather than being prone to shrink, modal's greater water absorbency means that modal may be more prone to stretching over time. Modal also offer slightly more warmth than cotton but still keeps cotton's lightweight feel.
Mohair Also known as angora, comes from the goats whose hair is used to weave this fabric. Mohair is as soft to the touch as cashmere, but with a fun, fuzzy texture. Not only is this fabric stretchable and durable but, as an added bonus, its flame-proof too (don't try this at home!) A fine wool fabric that you will be thrilled to have in your closet.
Nylon A man-made fabric, nylon combines extreme elasticity with the look and feel of silk. Stock up on nylon leggings, dresses and skirts for going out! The durability of nylon means that anything made of it will always return to its original form.
Polyester Made entirely of synthetic fibers, polyester offers advantages that most natural fabrics do not, such as heightened wrinkle-resistance and durability. Second only to cotton in popularity, you're probably already quite familiar with this fabric.
Polyurethane Polyurethane is a waterproof fabric that was created from a cotton poly blend and is both extremely durable and lightweight. Great fabric choice for a cropped jacket for the beginning of the fall season.
Rayon Another man-made and the closest thing to a true soft silk feel. In many instances, rayon's hard to tell apart from its silk counterpart.
Silk One of nature’s softest fabrics, silk has a lustrous sheen has been equated with luxury for decades. A delicate fabric that must be handled with care; hand wash or dry clean only.
Soy Another eco-friendly and function fabric. Fabric made of say is lightweight with a smooth silky-feel that. Soy fabric lends itself to a luxurious look.
Spandex/Elastane Spandex/elastane combines a smooth texture with stretchy breathability. Great for comfort and functionality.
Tencel Made of wool pulp but surprisingly lightweight, breathable, soft and drapable. Tencel benefits from being shrink-proof and wrinkle resistant; a versatile fabric that is easy to care for.
Viscose Rayon, taken up a notch. Viscose has the same silk-like look and feel of rayon but offers breath-ability on par with cotton. Keep in mind that rayon does wrinkle easily and can be prone to shrinkage, so you should be gentle with this fabric - always wash in cold water
Wool Warm, cozy, and the ultimate winter fabric. Wool in the right blend and weight is the perfect material for crafting everything from jackets and sweater to even blankets. In the right blend, wool can lack the "itchy" feel traditionally associated with it.
